Finally, an excellent website to buy photographs of Lewes?

It has taken a while but finally I have found an excellent resource of historical Lewes photographs that can be bought online and delivered straight to your door.

You can create posters, jigsaws, calendars, canvas and photographic prints from the comfort of your home. The choice is yours and they make great gifts or personal mementos.

A picture of a street in your home town (such a Lewes), can trigger memories of childhood that are pleasant to recall. The particular street depicted may not have been particularly important to you but it will still act as a catalyst to memories associated with living in that town.

About the Francis Frith Collection

• The collection consists of 365,000 photographs of a very high quality, fully titled and dated (by year).
• Over 7,000 towns & villages throughout the UK including Scotland, Wales, Northern and Southern Ireland have old photographs.
• There are an average of 30 pictures for each of the smaller towns and villages; 80 for the larger towns and as many as 300 for a number of cities. There are 99 photographs of Lewes!
• Original negatives for 98% of the views still exist. The quality of the pre 1940 negatives is outstanding and so good they can, with few exceptions, be enlarged to 40' by 25' murals! For this reason it is also possible to enlarge and extract small details from most subjects.
